Primary Blog/Recovery Tip 31: Spirituality

Today’s tip on how to help an addicted loved one recover is on the topic of spirituality. Spirituality can be a major hangup for those with addiction. In fact, most people that I treat have a real struggle with God or with a higher power. Now, when you’re seeking to help an addicted loved one with this, remember not to force your beliefs, but rather honor where they’re at, so that they can experience their own personal spiritual awakening. The idea is that you help them leave the door cracked and the spirit of recovery will come in and open the door. So keep in mind, as you’re seeking to help your addicted, loved one, recover to just be sensitive that they may have hangups. And to let the process go the way it’s supposed to.
