Primary Blog/Finding Freedom in Recovery

There’s a profound freedom in recovery – freedom from the things that once had a hold on you, that used to control you. For those starting this journey, breaking free from substances means opening more doors than you ever thought possible. This journey looks different for everyone. It might mean reconnecting with your family, embarking on a new career path, or simply living your life healthily and happily. Whatever this newfound freedom looks like to you, Brick House Recovery is here to help you get there.

Jason’s Journey

Our founder, Jason Coombs, experienced a major change in his life when he found his freedom. With an unstoppable passion to fulfill his purpose of helping others with addictions, his life took on a deeper, more personal meaning. Setting specific goals, he refused to let fears hold him back from reaching his potential. He applied to graduate school and was accepted into the Master of Professional Communication program at Westminster College in Salt Lake City. Along the way, he met his wife, the mother of his children, and was hired by Dr. Kevin McCauley and the co-founders of the Institute for Addiction Study. Today, Jason's recovery is infused with hope, clarity, and motivation, free from the grip of shame, inadequacies, and limiting beliefs.

Summer Sobriety

Summer poses a special challenge for those in recovery, with many events and gatherings offering alcohol. At Brick House, we understand these challenges and want to help you make this summer a time of fun, fond memories, and safety from relapse.

Stay Positive. Stay Proactive.
Maintaining a positive attitude isn't always easy, but it's crucial. Having a reliable support group is essential. Keep them on speed-dial; knowing their support is just a call away can help you stay positive during challenging times. Trusted companionship is invaluable in tough situations.

Stay with Support Groups.
As you journey towards recovery, you'll encounter life's challenges without the crutch of drugs or alcohol. Whether it's family, friends, romance, or work-related issues, you'll need healthy coping strategies. Regular attendance at support groups will equip you with the tools to navigate these situations and prevent relapse.

Practice Patience.
Sobriety is a gradual process, often spanning months or years, whereas relapse can happen in an instant. Remember, it does get better with time. Self-pity has no place on this journey; recovery takes time, but it's worth it. Patience is key.

Prioritize Sleep, Exercise, and Health.
Balancing sleep, exercise, and nutrition is essential for recovery. Addiction disrupts these aspects of life, making it challenging to maintain health. Strive for adequate rest, regular physical activity, and a balanced diet to support your well-being during recovery.

At Brick House Recovery, we are dedicated to helping you find your freedom and maintain it. Recovery is a journey, and you don’t have to walk it alone. Whether you’re just starting or have been on this path for a while, we’re here to support you every step of the way.
